Presentation of IZILF Village (Ksar)

IZILF is a Ksar of 2500 inhabitants (290 families). It is located in the province of Errachidia (86 km) between Tenijdad and Erfoud. It is part of the circle Goulmima (26km), and caïdat Tinejdad (7km), and is located in the rural town of Ferkla EsSoufla located 6 km from Ksar.

In Tamazight IZILF means "burnt", "ready to be reborn. " The old village, all of adobe, in center, is now abandoned in favor of new constructions. You should visit the ancient village with its typical houses made of mud and narrow streets where there is a homogeneity between light and shadow. Unfortunately the old houses are almost completely destroyed. The village is clean and welcoming, the children welcome you with "what's your name? "and great laughter.

The village is run by an ethnic group (D'Jmaa) composed of representative from each of 5 groups of the tribe Aït Morghad (Ait Aissa Ait Aamrgahi, Ait youb, Ait M'nemd, Ait Hrrou, Ait Aamer Mansour) and Ikbline (black population of the Ksar), 6representatives chosen by the people of the tribe. 6 members choose a leader. The state currently requires that the leader is literate. It is him who gives such agreement for the use of communal land in consultation with tribal leaders.

There is a primary school of 200 students and about a small group of thirty pre-school pupils. There is no hospital or clinic. There is also no hammam or public shower. The water supply and electricity is very satisfactory.

It is an oasis where they grow mainly dates, wheat, alfalfa, corn, vegetables and fruits in season for self-consumption (pomegranate, almond, grapes, figs, etc.. ). On the left bank of the river there is a sort of kasbah called "chtam" (meaning very fertile land, derived from the "Cham"in Syria) on the left bank of the river, with 6 to 7 farms where they grow fruits and vegetables for trade, including export (watermelon, melon, alfalfa). They use water from the aquifer by pumping. Unfortunately, these surges have an influence on the groundwater level of khettara, which can no longer currently irrigate all of the oasis, and thus on the palm.

The oasis is fed by irrigation water khettara Izilf. The cooperative has a well dug-up(Drilling Pump) that is used in times of drought when the flow of khettara is insufficient. These last two years, the khettara has been sufficient because the rains were abundant. Moreover, the khettara is also fed by a drain from the wadi.

Many are the tourists who pass by the village but do not see it. It's a pity. Soon they will stop at the laundromat and be offered a cup of tea. The local Tamazight "pizza" is absolutely delicious. Unavoidable.
